Islam, Hip Hop and Social Change

Postby Yusuf on Wed Feb 04, 2009 6:29 pm

What is the relationship between Islam and Hip Hop?

Are they compatible?

Where are the boundaries?

The debate to be chaired by Rakin Fetuga of Mecca to Medina, aims to discuss these questions and explore the influence that Hip Hop has had on British Muslim youth culture

Panellists include Muneera Rashida and Sukina Abdul Noor of Muslim Hip Hop duo Poetic Pilgrimage, Ishmael Yasin of Mecca to Medina, critically acclaimed poet and rapper Lowkey, Cambridge University's Shaikh Michael Mumisa and Tony Ishola founder of Platform magazine.

Award winning rapper, poet, playwright and political activist Lowkey and special guests will bring the evening to a close with a live performance that is not to be missed!

This is your chance to express your opinions and put questions to our diverse panel of speakers and take part in what promises to be a lively and informative debate.

This sounds like an interesting event.

I'm going to look into attending.
